Sirs,
My name is Rodrigo Silva. I’m 17 years old. I love to speak and make new friends but when I have to speak about me, I think it’s very difficult.
My family and my friends say that I'm polite, positive, easygoing and emotionally stable. I agree with them. I like to be polite and positive(my parents taught me it). So, I’m easygoing because I love to know others people and make new friends. I’m really emotionally stable, I am always well with the life.
I have an excellent relationship with my friends and family. I love my family, they are the most important thing in my life. My role in my family is to do my parents happy, because they do everything for me. Generally, I decide the things alone, but when I’m confused I ask for advice to my parents. I love my friends too, they always help me when I need and I always help them when they need. Friendship is a very important thing in my life. I know that There are many differences between my friends and I. But it’s normal, because I’m a teenager and my friends too. For example, when I like something and my friend doesn’t like, I respect it because the world is done of different people.
At my school, I’m the leader of the class. I like to be a leader, I need to please everybody , and it isn’t easy but it’s wonderful. Sometimes, I can’t please everybody, but it’s normal because it’s difficult to please everybody, so when it happens I try to please the majority. It’s important for me to know that the people are happy. I love to help the people that need.
My motivation to participate of AFS program is the world. I love to know the world, I love to know other culture, other language, other peoples. I hope to accomplish a lot of things in my exchange. But, the main, I want to know more about American culture. I really love English.! I hope to make strong friendships with my host family and my host friends. I know that it will be an important moment in my life, because I will get more mature. When I return of my exchange, I want to keep contact with the people that I knew there. I will go to show for the peoples of my country the culture and language that I learned there.
In my daily routine I don’t have a frustrating part or difficult part. Well, my daily schedule during school period is fast. I wake up at 06:00 a.m, I have breakfast, take a shower and I put my uniform. At 06:30 a.m, the school bus arrives in my home to pick up me. Then, at 07:00 a.m I arrive at the school. At 1:00 p.m my classes finish and I go to my home with school bus. I arrive at home at 1:30 p.m. I take a shower, have lunch and after I sleep. At 3:00 p.m I wake up and I’m going to the gym( I care about with my health). I go back to home at 6:00 p.m. So, at night I use the computer to talk with my friends and have a world’s news. After, I do my homework. At 10:30 p.m I’m going to sleep. So, I really love my daily routine.
A difficult situation in my life happened when my grandmother died. I loved my grandmother and I got very sad when she died. I cried a lot but I though that it was normal because everybody will die one day. Then, the time passed and I overcame it. The time is the best thing to overcome the difficult situations
I have many plans for my career. I still don’t know what do in the university, but I am in doubt between biomedicine and international relations. If I make biomedicine, I will work with genetics. If I make international relations, I want to be a diplomat. Those are my options because I love biological area and also love others languages, cultures and people.
I have done theater for 5 years. I became interested when I saw the first spectacle in my life. In that moment I loved theater( I don’t practice because I don’t have time.). Then, I began classes of theater and after 10 months I did my first spectacle. I was a lot dedicated. I practiced 4 hours daily and it was tired, but I liked. I loved to be in scene, it is an unique sensation. In the end of the spectacle, the people came and praised me. This is very gratifying. I love theater! I love any type of art, mainly books, museums and movies. I like of sports too. Volleyball is my favorite sport, it’s very interesting, I think that sport is very important for our health. I also like youth groups, it’s very good to be with others teenagers.
Well, this is a little about me, I hope that you like. I’m very excited about exchange!
See you in 2008!
Sincerly,
Rodrigo Silva
Bem é isso! Fiquem com Deus e uma boa noite ;*

Dear Host Family,
My name is Jully Oliveira. I would like to introduce myself, talk about my preferences, my relationship with my parents and friends, and what they think about me as well.
My parents think I am a cheerful, extroverted person who enjoys having friends and spending time with them; they think I am honest, responsible and the kind of daughter that likes studying, knows when to study or have fun; my father and my mother are confident about my future and think they will be proud of me. My friends believe I am polite, outgoing, friendly, warm and they enjoy being with me. They know they can always count on me whenever they need.
At home, I try to follow my parents advice. They are fun, but also strict at the right moment; they say what I ought to do when necessary. I always try to be a loyal friend; I like to share good moments with my friends and help them. But I also like having a ‘shoulder to cry on’ when I am sad. I can’t see much difference between my brother Pedro, who is 14, and I. He is shier than me; I think I am more patient; we like different kinds of music; and when it comes to everyday responsibilities I guess I am more concerned that he is. With my friends I know there are always some little disagreements, sometimes we don’t agree on some subjects but we always try to work out these little conflicts. At home, as a member of the family I have rights and duties and know that I have my share of contribution for a smooth, happy home. I always like to see my parents and brother happy and try to make them laugh. In some situations I look for my parents’ advice, such as places I should go, items I want to buy (books, clothes…) or other doubts I may have about ordinary activities.
At school, I try to take part in all activities; I take part in group activities, extra curricular activities such as outings and visiting charities. I often go to church with my parents and brother. I go to a club, where I get together with my friends and play sports ( usually volleyball and swimming); as school activities I’ve already taken part in campaigns to raise toys to be donated to poor children, visited public day-care centers. To me, it is important to have a good relationship with my family, help my parents, make good friends, study, travel and get the most out of opportunities life offers, be nice to people and get enough knowledge to be able to be a good professional.
I am interested in going to High School abroad to improve my English, as well as to know new cultures, to become more mature and experienced. I’ve chosen AFS because my father learned this Organization is very reliable, which made him feel secure about letting me study abroad. I hope to succeed; to make new friends; to adapt easily and to fit in my host family, as well, somehow, to be useful to people who will welcome me abroad; to learn all good things the country has to offer me, specially concerning education, culture and leisure.
My routine (school and homework, going out with friends....) is necessary for my development. All my activities are done with no difficulties and nothing is frustrating.
Actually, I have never gone through something so difficult and challenging, but I can remember a relatively challenging situation that took place 4 years ago when I had to change schools. At the time, I was attending a school with small classes, and there were only 4 girls, but I didn’t complain. After talking to my parents, we decided that it would be better to change schools because the one I was going to was not fulfilling concerning education. My friends moved cities; in addition, I was attending a new school, I had to face a new situation, new people and people who had been together for a long time. It was a challenge to make new friends, to live with new people, to get to know their way, their weaknesses and qualities and to try to understand the differences. To me, at that time, it was as if I were getting into a new world. With time, I was able to fit in, get to know each one and soon I was making new friends; actually it was not that hard.
I plan to prepare to enter a public university and attend medical school. I want to be a well-prepared professional to help people and to have good job opportunities.
My main interests and activities are: 1) reading magazines : I read some fortnight’s magazines and some books regularly; 2) walking: I sometimes go for a walk; dance classes; swimming; volleyball: I love playing volleyball with my friends once a week; 3) movies: I enjoy going to the movies with my friends and brother, which I do once a week Whenever I can I also watch movies that I rent from a video store; 4) ballet : I enjoy going to ballet presentations or my school plays; 5) news: I watch news on TV; soap operas, cartoons, series : I watch them when I have some free time; 6) some days a week when I have some free time in the afternoon I go out with friends: we go to the club, go to a friend’s home to talk, watch movies, laugh, play a game; 7) music: In my free time an also enjoy listening to music on an Ipod or computer.
Best wishes,
Jully Oliveira

Veremos.
Já me prolonguei demais. Tá aí a carta, enooorme.
=DD
Dear Family,
My name's Paula Cristina Meira Chinelato, I'm 15 years old. I live in Fortaleza, I came here when I was 5, but I was born in São Paulo. Only me, my sister and parents moved. The entire family is there. I miss them a lot, but I learned to handle it. I walk to school everyday, my classes start at 7:15 am and end at 12:30 pm. I study in a private school, and we all have to wear uniforms. It's really exausting because in the end of the last year, everybody has a test to do. It's something like SAT, but it's harder and that is what defines whether we are getting into University or not, which is kinda scarry. I'm a good student, though. I try to do well in everything, even though I have over 10 subjects. It's a lot to study.
I can play volleyball and a bit of handball. I’ve played for the school team a few years ago, but I left. Wanted to try new things, and I was in the Theater too, so… But I’ve always wanted to come back. I like sports. I live in a big city, the 5th biggest city in Brazil. But there's not a lot to do in here. Fortaleza is small if you compare to São Paulo. The weather is warm, but not so hot because of the wind. It's very pleasant, actually. But no winter here. Just sun the entire year.
I'm very close to my friends and family. They're all funny, and I feel comfortable to tell them everything, even though I know they will joke about it latter, but I don't care. My parents are really supportive, they want me to go too. They realized how important the experience is, and my friends are excited as well. I love them so much, they are my life. My sister’s 6 years old. We do well, or as well as two siblings can do. I couldn’t imagine myself without her. I have a great relationship with my parents. We joke together and tell each other everything. They trust me, and I would never betray their trust.
I have pets. Two female poodles. Mother and daughter, and I love them. I really like pets. Specially dogs. I feel shy among people I don't know, but just for a while. As I get to know people better, I can be very expansive. And I’m organized. Gotta love watching movies, listening to music, reading... I like a bit of everything. Love to watch series. I like to go out, but I don’t do it very often. There aren’t good concerts where I live, so I pretty much just go to mall or hang out with my friends.
I love to travel. Every year my parents take me and my sister to a new destination. In 2007, as a gift for my 15th birthday, I went to Disneyworld. No doubt it was the best trip ever, I had so much fun there. I’d absolutely love to know more places in U.S.A. When I came back, all of us went to Italy. It was great too, even though none of us spoke Italian… but we brought a book, a conversation one. And it helped. A lot. Religion? I’m not Catholic… I have my own belief and it’s independent of any religion. But I respect all sorts of beliefs and it would be ok to go to church once in a while, or help in the events and this sort of thing.
I am going as an exchange student because I wanna know different people and culture. Get out of the world I know and try different things, being independent. It's something really important to my future, a huge life experience. I expect to make friends and meet new people, which is what traveling as an exchange student is all about. Also bringing you a little of the Brazilian culture as well. I’m not spoiled, and I’m not afraid of fighting to make the 10 months as an exchange student the best of my life. Last, but not least, my parent’s letter. They are probably saying a lot of things about me, telling you how quiet and calm I am very easygoing and I undersant that I'm going to American in order to fit into your culture, not otherwise. They are just scared of the fact that I'm growing, it's like they still see me like their little girl sometimes. I trust you'll be able to tell what is true and what is "parent's talk".
Sincerely,
Paula Chinelato

"Dear Wasatch’s faculty and staff,
I believe you already know a lot about me as a student, but I know that it is also important to get to know me as a Brazilian 14-years-old girl. As you know, my name is Genevieve Zucchetto de Oliveira, I’m from Vitória – ES and I blow out my candles in 06/19.
As a normal teenager, I really love my friends and they are a special part of my life. They have been supporting me and even though we’ve got some differences, we are always making efforts to understand and help each other whenever it’s necessary. We enjoy going to the movies, riding our bikes around town and eating barbecue in the Saturday’s afternoon. We also go to the church every Sunday, and we love our group, “Adolescents meeting Christ”.
I live with my parents and grandparents here in Pancas, a small town with less than 17000,00 people. It may sound a good town size, but here in Brazil a town like this is not very developed, so there are no movie theaters, restaurant and stuff like that. Moving to a small town was definitely weird, but it made me realize that I was locked into my own world, and I was only seeing what was in front of me, in my neighborhood and school. When I came to my new town, I had the opportunity to see how hard life can be to some people, and I felt like I needed to help them, and that was when I begun to do volunteer work.
Here in Pancas, I met some awesome people and made lifelong friendships. However, it can’t provide me what I need to be very successful, and achieve all of my aims. Except that and the lack of infra-structure, the town is great. Lots of people from other countries come here to do paragliding, and I always talk to them when I see someone that is not from Brazil. Some people think I’m crazy because of it, but if I was in other country I would love to see someone trying to help me.
The school that I attended in 2007 is great, and everyone is so heartwarming. The small school made me feel comfortable and welcomed. Anyway, I only attended it for seven months, but they were all great. My previous school is the best place to be here in Espírito Santo. It is a environment on which we learn a lot, get prepared to the college’s entrance test (Vestibular) and make amazing friendships. I attended this school since I was 9 years old, so I know everyone since 1st grade until 12th, even though it has lots of students, we always know each other name.
Well, this is a little about me as a friend and as a 9th grade girl. I'm so excited to attend Wasatch! I believe that the school and me will be a great match. I'm looking forward arriving in Utah and meet you all. Thanks for accepting me, and see you in August!
Love,
Genevieve Zucchetto"

Meu nome é Laís, moro em Maceió e vou com 15 anos pra o intercâmbio. Eu sei que é pouco (demais), but I have my reasons. =}
(Or at least I hope so...).
E que venha agosto! =}

Enfim, primeiro post.

In the school I have classes from 12:50 pm to 18:15 pm when I come back to have dinner with my family. I like study, my favorites subjects are Biology, Spanish and Portuguese. I also like Mathematics and Physics although it’s kind of difficult.

For starters, thank you very much for hosting me.
My name is Fernando. I’m 15 and I live in Barretos – State of São Paulo – Brazil. It’s a calm and small city – 100.000 people live here -, but it’s very famous for the Rodeo Festival that is held every August. About a million people come to visit the city during this festival. The weather is mostly dry and hot throughout the year.
I live with my father, José, my mother, Vânia, and my aunt, Raquel. I also have a sister, Cinthia. She’s 20 but now she lives in another city because she’s studying to be a physical theraphist. We get along pretty well and we like to spend time together.
I’m in the second year of high school, I’ve been studying at the same school since kindergarten and I’m friends with almost everybody there, teachers, staff and students as well. When I finish high school, I intend to graduate in mechatronic engineer, so I know I have to study hard in order to achieve this goal.
The main reason for me to go the U.S.A. is because I want to improve my English a lot and of course, I want to meet different people, get to know different places and broaden my horizons as a person and also, take everything I can get to my professional life to try to make a difference.
Thank you very much for choosing me. I’ll do my best to get along with everybody and I’m sure you won’t regret having me around.
Best wishes,

Dear Host Family
First of all, I would like to thank you for opening your home and receiving me as your own son. My name is Daniel and I’m 16 years old.
I live in a city with around 750 thousands habitants and really near the capital of the state of São Paulo. Living near capital is good because there are a lot of places that I love to go, like big malls, beautiful historic parks, different kinds of restaurants and theme parks.
I live now only with my parents and I love to live with them. I have 2 older sisters. One of them is 26 years old and her name is Paula. She’s graduated as psychologist and she hasn’t gotten married yet. The other one is 21 years old, her name is Débora. She has already gotten married and lives so happy with her husband now. Both of my sisters live in Rio Claro, a city not so far from the place I live, so I always see them.
My family is essential for me. After God, they’re the most important people for me and I love them so much that I can’t explain. My parents are always with me and I love spending my time with my family. God was so good with me, when He put me in this family that I love so much!
So, let’s talk more about me. I study in a private school. People say that it’s the best school in the city and I say it’s the hardest one! Here I have to study so much, and sometimes I don’t study enough to get the great grade that I’d like to , but hardly ever my grades are bellow the average. The school is really near my house and I always go there walking.
In my free time, I like to use the internet to talk with friends, play games and listen to some music. I like to watch TV too, specially American movies and series. I love to hang out with my family and friends, and the places that we usually go are malls, Mc Donald’s, movies, bowling, restaurants, etc…
I enjoy some sports too; however I only practice them at school. There we play volleyball, soccer, handball but I only like to play volleyball and table tennis and this one, we don’t have at school anymore.
I’m Christian/ Baptist, so Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays are my favorite days. On Fridays, I have a meeting with all my friends from church I really like it! On Saturdays I go to my English class and then I go to church again because there are special meetings for the adolescents and young people. Sunday’s the faster of my days. I wake up at 8 am and go to the church again! I come back home at 12 a.m. but at 4 o’ clock I go back to church because I have a volunteer work with deaf people. I translate the songs that they play in my church for their signal language. It’s really cool and I’m so proud of myself to do this so, you can see that God and church are really important to me! I don’t know if I could spend a long time away from any church.
I love Pets, especially Dogs. Last year we bought a Dalmatian. But it started growing and I live in apartment, there wasn’t enough space for Pingo, the name of my last dog, so we had to give him for a person who has a big house to take care of him. I got really sad because of this!
After High School I intend to go to University and get a degree in veterinarian or something linked to Biology. If I have the opportunity I would like to study maybe at any American University.
I am sure my life will change a lot when I come back to Brazil. I’m sure that will be easier than before to get a good job.
Well, I think I’ve already talked enough about me. I hope you like my letter. This exchange program will make my future better and I have no doubt that I’ll really like it! I’m sure that I‘ll have a good family to share all of my happiness!
My Best Wishes!
Thanks Again
Daniel
